Orăşenii din Câmpulung şi Neagoe Basarab. Cu prilejul împlinirii a 500 de ani de la urcarea acestuia în scaunul domnesc

  • Subiect: The Inhabitants of Câmpulung & Neagoe Basarab. The Celebration of 500 Years Since He Became a Voivode In a pact with the Hungarian Kingdom, on the 17th of March 1517, Neagoe Basarab restricted the freedom of trading for the merchants from Braşov, who could perform their activities only in the ''fairs from the borders'' from Câmpulung, Târgovişte & Târgşor. Because the authorities from Braşov were unsatisfied because of this situation, they tried to hinder the merchants from Walachia in various ways such as obstructions, harassing, and intimidations etc.; consequently, the voivode was forced to intervene to the magistrate of Braşov in order to help various townsmen from Câmpulung who had been wronged: Dobromir, and the merchants Stoica & Stanciu, and even Popa Petru. After he had fixed the issue, Neagoe Basarab sent to the inhabitants of Braşov, in 1521, through the famous letter written by Neacşu from Câmpulung, a well known merchant of the time, a message that determined the taking of some decisions in order to prevent the danger of an imminent Ottoman invasion. Neagoe Basarab has always supported his subordinates merchants who used to trade both in Braşov and Sibiu.
