Statuia equestra a împăratului Marcus Aurelius Antonimes (Caracalla) de la Porolissum. Propuneri pentru o reconstituire grafică

  • Subiect: The Equestrian Statue of the Emperor Marcus Aurelius Antoninus (Caracalla) at Porolissum On various occasions several fragments of colossal bronze statuette were found at Porolissum mainly in the interior of the large roman fort on the Pomăt hill. There is a certainly that some of the fragments belong to a statuette of Marcus Aurelius Antoninus (Caracalla) The present paper is an attempt to reconstitute the statue. The reconstitution attempt was facilitated by the fact that one of the authors is a both a specialist in haplology and a sculptor and painter. The bronze statue was not cast in a single piece, but in several large component parts, may be at Rome; they were brought to Porolissum and assembled on the spot. The emperor is represented on horseback, cuirassed, in military dress (short sleeved tunic, cloak, campagi). looking straight ahead, the right hand slightly raised in the typical gesture of a military commander, who is about to address his troops. Its face is somewhat idealized in contrast with the brutal and more realistic image which appears on the coins (see fn. 1) The horse, in fact a stead, is represented pacing. The reconstitution was made rather in its big outlines, and not in all its details, but is likely to give au idea of the strength and grandeur of the life and civilization in Dacia Porolissensis on the northern frontier of the Roman Empire.
