"Cum sa faci cerneală sa scrie cu dânsa pă hârtie". Prepararea lichidelor pentru scris în manuscrisele româneşti (sfârşitul secolului al XVIII-lea - prima jumătate a secolului al XIX-lea)

  • Subiect: “How to Make Ink to Write With it on Paper”. The Preparation of the Writing Liquids for the Romanian Manuscripts (the End of the 18th Century – the First Half of the 19th Century) Based on the study of Romanian manuscripts from the Library of the Romanian Academy, the present study effects a foray in the typology of the inks used in Wallachia and Moldavia at the end of the 18th century and the first half of the 19th century. The recipes for the preparations of the black inks and the almost black inks are mainly discussed. Colored inks and the silver and gold liquids (sometimes replaced by imitations) were used for the embellishment of the office manuscripts and documents. Red, green, violet, blue, and yellow inks were generally prepared using vegetal (elder tree, saffron, indigo, campeche wood) and chemical (cinnabar, soot, etc.). The analysis of the sources helps to the explanation of the reasons for the registering and copying of these recipes. It also proves the importance of the circulation and spreading of the information from one social milieu to another, as well as from one Romanian country to another.
