Scene de etnologie urbană în imagini istorice ale oraşelor României de azi

  • Subiect: „An historian is interested in studying representations of towns because they offer a widespread area of information, completing or substituting other sources. Therefore, the present day historian can see the surrounding of the town at one given moment, information about the local economy, architecture, everyday life and social conditions, confessional and politic urban life, even leisure. Much information that a researcher or a simple viewer can find in historical images of towns is about the ethnological aspects of urban life. As an announcement of the emergence of photography, artists of the nineteenth century have captured in their faces images faces, vestments, professions, activities and events. Mostly, urban ethnology items are to be found in representations of trade fairs, but also in representations of special events, such as weddings, or representations of banal everyday activities, as laundry washing at the river. Of course, were not forgotten by the artists the main activities of those who fed the towns: livestock and pou/try farming or agricultural labor.”
