Meşteşul împletitului funiilor în satele din Culmea Sălajului

  • Subiect: The Craft of Rope Spinning in the Villages from Sălaj Hills Alongside the other domestic crafts practiced in this area of the Sălaj Region, the rope spinning craft had an important role in household of the peasants of the district. The raw material was hemp, flax lime and tree fiber; the ropes were used for transport, lifting heavy things, work in the woods the extraction of the stone from the stone carry. The ropes were made with simple tools up to the First World War when, under the influence of the city workshops, there appeared „wheels for rope making". The bulk of these ropes were made in the family by men, rarely by women. In some of the villages, the craft was no more practiced in the last forty years because the ropes needed by the peasant's household were bought from the weekly fairs. For the present time there are many people who know how to practice this craft, but only very few of these really practice it, because of the lack of raw material and because the ropes have been replaced by chains and plastic fiber ropes the latter being cheaper and easier to be found. The study of this domestic craft under: all its aspects is intended to contribute to a better knowledge of the general aspect of domestic craft's practice in this area of the Sălaj Region.
