Resturile de faună din groapa neolitică tîrzie de la Carei - Cozard (G2), judeţul Satu Mare

  • Subiect: In a ritual pit excavated in 1991-1994 at Carei - Cozard (North-West of Romania), a small interesting animal bone sample, about 403 fragments were unearthed. The faunal assemblage is interesting for some reasons: It provides some information about the wild and domestic species of a region less analyzed from this point of view. In its earlier phases it had a ritual function. For ritual deposal were used parts of a mature bull (Bos taurus). There were preferred the head and the legs (the meaty regions, especially). In the later phases the pit was maybe used as a garbage pit. Bones from many species and individuals were identified. The domestic animals were of rather small size; a local domestication is possible in case of cattle.
