Evoluţia populaţiei comitatului Crasna între 1720-1725

  • Subiect: Demographical Evolution of Crasna County between 1720 and 1725 The present article compares the data of two conscriptions for the purchase of salt: one from 1720, the other from 1725. In these conscriptions there were recorded the social categories, the family fathers, the number of children and the number of big animals (cattle) and the smaller ones (sheep, goats and pigs). The number of the inhabitants in 1720 were 10,000 and in 1725 one may observe an increase to 13,000. The average number of children for one family grew from 2 to 2.63 thus grew the average number of one family member from 4 to 4.63. The social structure did not change essentially between 1720 and 1725, 50.67% of the inhabitants were serfs, 35.99% free peasants (inquilinus), 8.48% nobles with 'one estate, 2.29 % nobles with more estates, priests and grammar school teachers. The economic differentiation was done according to the number of cattle. In 1725 the majority of peasants, 71.73% had between 2-7 'cattie. This meant an increase in number of families with 8 or more than 8 cattle, because they had to pay taxes ln accordance with the number of animals they had.
