Atitudinea prizonierilor ardeleni din Primul Război Mondial faţă de corpurile de voluntari

  • Subiect: The attitude of prisoners from Transylvania during the First World War toward volunteers The purpose of this study is not to take again into consideration the problem of volunteers but to underline the attitudes toward this alternative for it is of a consideration from political aspects. This approach pays attention to those who refuse to become volunteers many more considerable efforts to enlist in the Romanian army, before the official announcement. But the results were of minor importance: before Romania joined the war only three Transylvanian managed to arrive in the country; among them Eugen Goga, poet's Octavian Goga brother and Laurian Gabor, a candidate for lawyer from Sibiu. The same for those from France or ltaly. To resume, volunteers' recruit seemed to begin too late. The volunteer officer Aurel D. Pop stated only 2.500 volunteers arrived to front. If Volunteer Group organization had not taken so long Romania would have had enlisted, in Summer 19 J 7, at least I O.OOO volunteers. This action seemed to be the result of a lack of synchronization between people's will and the priorities of the Romanian fronton the one hand and the official announcement on the other. The Transylvanian energy wasted during waiting and discouragement.
