Ctitori de Bucureşti - familia Basilescu

  • Subiect: Bucharest, the Capital of Romania, was formed gradually, coagulating by including the neighboring villages around the old perimeter of the Ancient Princely Court. The initiative of a skillful businessmen, an eminent jurist and a good citizen, Nicole Bazilescu, was added to the above-mentioned natural way of the town development. He bought the Măicăneşti-Grefoaia estate that he divided into lots according to the American system and he endowed with all social, cultural, religious utilities: a church, schools, pares, factories, means of transportation, graveyards a.s.o., giving it a new identity: the New Bucharest. The initiative and efforts of Nicolae Basilescu were carried on by his son, Aristide Basilescu but were brutally out off during the ‘40ies, by the communist regime. The family which had given so much to its fellow men was put to prison, and its estate was scattered. But the name of Basilescu will stay forever linked with e splendid port of Bucharest, fact which oblige us morally to confer its members the honoring title of founders of Bucharest
