Începuturile activităţii politice a lui Iuliu Maniu

  • Subiect: The Beginnings of Iuliu Maniu s Political Activity The author traces the origin of Iuliu Maniu in an old noble family from Transylvania, a family which gave numerous priests, scholars and fighters for the Romanian National cause. Then the years of his study in secondary school and university are described, and further his political activity in favor of the Memorandum movement (his uncle dr. Iuliu Coroianu was one of the protagonists of his movement). In this field Iuliu Maniu had a fruitful collaboration with Alexander Vaid Voivod, Rubin Patiţia Junior, Mihai Dan but also with the representatives of the Serbs and Slovaks in Budapest. · · The author also speaks about the time when Iuliu Maniu got his job as an advocate at the Greek Catholic Bishopric (Metropolitiship) from Blaj. Further the author insists on Maniu's parliamentary activity, his combatively, his cooperation with the representatives of the Serbs and of the Slovaks. Owing to his militant attitude Iuliu Maniu was not elected in Parliament during the elections from 1910. The paper concludes with Maniu's activity before the First World War, while being a vice-president of the National Romanian Party his position during the treaties with the Hungarian authorities, his connections with the governors from Bucharest. The author shows that the first World War meant the end of a fruitful period in Iuliu Maniu's political career. He reveals Maniu's tenacity, patriotism, his spirit for sacrifice, having been an ardent defender of the National Interests of the Romanians from Transylvania.
