Inele sigilare descoperite la Piua Petri (Oraşul de Floci) judeţul Ialomiţa / Signet Rings Discovered at Piua Petrii (Oraşul de Floci), Ialomiţa County

  • Subiect: From the large number of pieces of jewelry discovered in the graves of the cemeteries from the area of the medieval site Oraşul de Floci, the author presents two silver signet-rings of particular importance. The first ring was found in the narthex of "Church no.2". It bears an inscription with Cyrillic letters, representing the abbreviated name of Grăştian cel Mare (attested in a document from 15th October 1606), of one of the founders of the church, were he was buried too. The second signet-ring is decorated with a representation of St. George killing the Dragon. It is assumed that the ring belonged to an important dignitary, one of the officials of the town. Both rings bring an important contribution in better knowing a medieval city life of Oraşul de Floci, a town that disappeared by the end of the 18th century.
