O interesantă eroare medalistică / An Interesting Medalistic Error

  • Subiect: Between 1904 - 1909 the Romanian Numismatic Society issued medals for some Romanian princes that had important contributions to the strengthening of Wallachia and Moldavia and to the defense of their independence: Mircea the Old, Stephen the Great, Bogdan III, Michael the Brave, Matei Basarab, Vasile Lupu, Şerban Cantacuzino, Radu the Great. At the National History Museum of Romania there are two hybrid medals in silver and bronze (50 mm diameter), produced from two dies that obviously were not intended to have been used together. The engraver used the obverse die from the medal of Vlad Ţepeş and the reverse of the medal of Bogdan III. Those medals were probably made as the same time and the engraver mixed up the two dies, so the hybrid medals resulted of.
