Monede medievale moldoveneşti descoperite la Cetatea Albă (Bilgorod-Dnistrovskij, reg. Odessa, Ukraina) (secolul al XV-lea) / Moldavian Coins Found at Cetatea Albă (Bilgorod-Dnistrovskij, Reg. of Odessa, Ukraine) (15th Century)

  • Subiect: This article represents an improved version of that already edited in Russian (Dergaceva 2007 87-93). The author presents a hoard found in 1974 at Cetatea Albă (today Bilgorod-Dnistrovskij, Odessa Reg., Ukraine), during archaeological excavations made in an area located near the Eastern Gate (the North-Eastern Barbican). It consists of 27 coins, of which 26 are anonymous half groats, attributed to Alexander I (1400- 1432) (no. 1-26) and a worn double groat, quite likely, struck by Stephen II, during his single reign (1433-1435) (no 28). The author has edited also 25 single finds of 15th century Moldavian coins, consisting of: Alexander I - 22 sp. (no. 28-49); Stephen II - 1 sp. (no. 50); Elias - 2 sp. (no. 51-52); Stephen III - 2 sp. (no. 53-54). The last, so far, known Moldavian issues found at Cetatea Albă consist of 2nd type groats struck by Stephen III. Quite likely, after the Ottoman conquest of the town in 1484 the diffusion of the Moldavian currency toward Cetatea Albă had ceased.
