Monede moldoveneşti din colecţia Alessandrescu păstrate la Cabinetul Numismatic al Muzeului Naţional de Istorie / Medieval coins from the Alessandrescu Collection kept at the Coin Room of the National History Museum

  • Subiect: The purpose of this article is to present 71 Moldavian groats, minted during the reign of Peter I Muşat. The coins are part of Alessandrescu’s collection. By conducting typological studies and XFR analysis on the coins, one can assume that the Moldavian groats were minted in order to be put into circulation in both Polish and Hungarian lands. We also notice that the coins which display two flowers and a retrograde legend on the obverse are minted according to the Polish standard. This standard shows a reversal of the obverse legend, after the monetary reform in 1388. This leads the authors to presume that the Angevine shield is actually represented on the obverse and the aurochs head on the reverse.
