Două descoperiri de monede de aur bizantine din secolul al X-lea, din districtul Razgrad, Bulgaria / Two Byzantine Gold Coins from the 10th c. Found in the Region of Razgrad

  • Subiect: The author publish two 10th century Byzantine gold hoards found in the territory of Razgrad district (north-eastern Bulgaria). The first was found in 1935 at Zaved, nearby Malăk Porovec (and it was wrongly supposed to be found at Malăk Porovec). The first one consisted in 5 gold numismata, but nowadays only 4 specimen are still preserved in collection of the History Museum in Razgrad. One was struck by Basil I and Constantine and 3 by Constantine VII and Romanus II. The second hoard was found in 1998, during regular archaeological researches in the area of the ancient town of Abrittus. It consisted in 11 nomismata, 10 struck by Constantine VII and Romanus II and 1 by Nicephorus II. The coins were concealed in an ancient bronze item. According to the author, the two hoards found in Razgrad district were concealed during the Russian-Byzantine wars for the conquest of the First Bulgarian Kingdom 969-971.
