Finalizarea grupei păstoritului tradiţional din Muzeul Civilizaţiei Populare Tradiţionale "Astra"

  • Subiect: The fishing of the traditional shepherding group in ”ASTRA” The Museum of Traditional Folk Civilization The existence of rich pastures and the peaks of Romanian Carpathian Mountains occasioned the development of intense pastoral life in the alpine areas that outran the superior limit of coniferous woods. The settlement on such areas of barren sheep-folds (lambs, rams, barren sheep, ewes) was deprived of wood material, and so stane constructions with different functions were built. The stane hut (cotroana) was transferred from Parang Mountains the pastoral area inhabited by the so called momarlani from Jiet village, Hunedoara County. The cotroana was rebuilt in the museum in the autumn of 2006. A curious and original phenomenon is alsa encountered in the rocky Carpathian Mountains, namely the presence of the cairns (gomile, mamai). They are cylindrical, cane or truncated cane stane posts. They seldom surpass the height of 1.5 meters. The purpose for which they were erected with many centuries ago is still unknown to the shepherds. But they preserved them and some of the gomile were changed into crosses. The shepherds joined two diametrical opposite arms and thus a Christian significance was added. ln this way the cairns reveal their sacred significance from the very beginning.
