Ilustrarea instalaţiilor cu roată hidraulică verticală pentru măcinat cereale, din cadrul Muzeului Civilizaţiei Populare Tradiţionale ASTRA. Aspecte tehnico-funcţionale.

  • Subiect: The typological evolution and development of the grinding instalations for cereals, provided with hydraulic vertical wheel were influenced directly by the geographic conditions , especially by the network of streams. The variable flow of some water courses, as well as the flow rate, have led to the emergence and spread of some different types of mills regarding their construction technique and their grinding efjiciency. Transylvania has received during the Middle Ages, the first evolved types of hydraulic instalations for the grinding of cereals as well as fulling mills and water driven-forges, driven by hydraulic vertical wheels. This technical influence is due to the presence of the white monks and the german colonists in this area, that played an important role in the implementation of some advanced constructive techniques. Later, these instalations were spread and generalised in all the Romanian spaces, but the different geographic regions have determined a various proportionality of the mills with vertical wheel, being used three types: mills with overshot, medium shot and undershot wheel. These present severa! functional subtypes: the mill with alvan and the floating mill. The collection of mills of The ASTRA Museum o/Folk Traditional Civilization represents a complete and complex synthesis ofthe typology of hydraulic grinding instalations for cereals, surprising all the technical patterns existent at European level.
