Armamentul devensiv personal din Transilvania în secolele XI-XIV

  • Subiect: THE PERSONAL DEFENSIVE WEAPONS IN TRANSILVANIA OF 11-14 CENTURY The study of the personal defensive weapons in Transilvania is made difficult because of the incomplete character of the sources, which are very few for the first part of the period of time. During the 13-14 centuries it becomes richer. The shields develop from the that of the Normandyan-type to those of the triangular chivalry type and at finally those being replaced by the targe-type, ones of different shapes and sizes. As for the evolution of the helmets in Transylvania, a developing period is similar to that of the of the occidental chivalry environment can be noticed, with the addition that also the Oriental type of helmet is mentioned in their different forms. The armours develop from those of ring-armour in their different forms tho those which were completely made of the plate armour. One can generally state that personal defense weapons from Transilvania can be listed as a whole ioto European types, having trough Oriental elements and a few archaic traces, both explainable by the outskirts situation of this province.
