Un mare negustor din Curtea de Argeş la cumpăna veacurilor XV-XVI

  • Subiect: A Great Merchant from Curtea de Argeş Between the 15th and the 16th Centuries In this paper, the author presents the portrait of one of the most important merchants from Argeş, known in the documents as Dragotă or Dumitru Dragotă, who lived between the 15th and the 16th centuries and whose business was mainly performed in the market from Sibiu, where he met important merchants who were part of the local patrician group: Michael Altemberger, Nicolaus Zanobii (alias Niclis Prollin), Johann Hecht. Dragotă brought to Sibiu natural products (fish, wax, pigs, lard, etc.) whose value was over 10 160 dinars; these products came from the internal market and represented about 1,4% of the total amount from Walachia exported to Sibiu. Dumitru Dragotă and his brothers, aka Drăgoteşti, were members of the local elite. There are mentioned exchanges of properties between them and the Argeş Monastery, during the reign of the voivodes Neagoe Basarab Radu de la Afumaţi.
