Moartea şi ritualurile funerare în comunităţile de la Motiş şi Surduc (unitate şi diferenţe specifice)

  • Subiect: DEATH AND THE FUNERAL RITES IN THE COMMUNITIES OF MOTIŞ AND SURDUC (UNITY AND SPECIFIC DIFFERENCES) If analyzed in the complex context of the folk spirituality, death and the customs related to the burial have a socio cultural component. In the traditional communities the passage rites play an important role, even if everyone dies alone, going through all stages in his/her own way, those left cannot survive in loneliness, outside the community they are bound to by the infinite network of social ties. All these rites of passage to the other world are indicators of our individuality and of our own and specific character, but they also make us remember that we are part of the community we belong to. In the communities under research, that is Motiş and Surduc, death used to be an event concerning everybody. The effective manifestation of the burial ceremony meant the completion of some rites, of some strict rules generating specific practices and representations. According to the traditional conceptions, man did not come from anywhere, the same as man would not leave this life for going anywhere. The mentality of the folk people is concerned with each and every person to achieve their own role and meaning and to be ready for the „other world”.
