Omul, muza şi artistul

  • Subiect: THE MAN, THE MUSE AND THE ARTIST It is said that each town has its personalities, that these give in one way or another a kind of spiritual touch to that place. Ioan Sima was a noticeable man in this respect – a forerunner on his father’s side was the cneaz Sima of Săcel (Maramureş), endowed with estates by John Hunyadi for his taking part in the campaign against the Turks (1443– 1444). His grandfather on his mother’s side, Iacob Deleu, was one of the most valiant among the captains of Avram Iancu, and his uncle, Victor Deleu, was the organizer of the first battalions of Transylvanian volunteers arrived in Iasi in 1917. Ioan Sima is an outstanding personality of the artistic life from Sălaj, a master of shapes and colours, who made immortal on his canvas the landscape and the people from this place. In this study, we are not to focus on his biographical data or on his multiple expositional activities – well reflected by the press and by the critics of his time, but we want to make a documentary portrait of this master of arts, to evoke his personality, to understand where his lyrics and sensibility reflected on each of his paintings come from, what is the source of his love for the land of Sălaj, so often rendered in the paintings and by the gestures of this painter.
