Etape ale prelucrării uneltelor din piatră şlefuită în situl de la Porţ - „Corău”

  • Subiect: Fazes of polished stone tools manufacturing at Porţ-“Corău” site Thee site of Porţ-“Corău” (Sălaj County) represents the same neolithic settlement as Suplacu de Barcău- “Corău” site, belonging to Suplac cultural group. In both areas, but especially at Porţ, a large number of polished stone tools (about 2000), showing different working stages, were discovered. By comparing them, we could establish several phases of manufacturing, based on their products and techniques: cores obtained from percusion applied to raw material, cores showing traces of polishing and cuing, where polishing marked the part that needed to be cued, resulting the perform (a slab stone with similar dimensions and shape as the tool that was to be made). The preform was turned into a form mainly by polishing using a sandstone slab, but often the shape was corrected with a thin hammer. Based on the symmetry, the sharpening of the cutting edge and smoothness of the piece, we could establish an initial and an advanced stage of manufacturing. As techniques, percussion and cuing were used along with polishing, the rst two mainly for obtaining the preform from the raw material, the last, to turn the perform into the nal product.
