Solzi de armură din bronz, descoperiţi la Şimleul Silvaniei

  • Subiect: BRONZE SCALE ARMOUR PIECES DISCOVERED IN ŞIMLEU SILVANIEI The present study presents two new bronze scale armour pieces found by chance in the area of the Dacian fort of Şimleu Silvaniei, Sălaj County, Cetate site. Due to pragmatic and economic reasons, as well as the fact that scale armour contains a large number of scales, very few examples of this kind of defensive equipment have been discovered in pre-Roman Dacia. The two scale armour pieces from Şimleu Silvaniei were discovered by chance, one on the northern slope and one on the south-eastern slope of Cetate hill. Given the area of the provenance and the comparanda, these two pieces most probably belonged to some distinctive defensive military equipment used by the people who defended the fortification.
