The main elements that have defined the external orientation of the Walachia were based on two directions of evolution of international political relationships, resulting in geopolitical rivalry between the Ottoman Empire and the Kingdom of Hungary, on the one hand, and that between them two and the Polish-Lithuanian State, on the other hand.
