Jupâneasa Bălaşa, fiica marelui ban Neagoe Săcuianu şi soţia clucerului Badea Bucşanu

  • Subiect: Jupâneasa Bălaşa, the Daughter of the mare ban Neagoe Săcuianu & the Wife of the clucer Badea Bucşanu In this article we focus on a woman that belongs to the Ancient Regime, Bălaşa, the daughter of the Grand ban Neagoe Săcuianu & the wife of the 2nd clucer Badea Bucşanu, who lived between the second half of the 17th century & the end of the first decade of the 18th century. She was born around 1655-1656, baptized by Constantin Şerban & his Lady, Bălaşa, whose name she was given. The daughter of Neagoe Săcuianu’s had a dramatic life which was very well described in the documents of that time. She spent most of the time of her childhood without her father, as he wandered across foreign countries as an employee of his benefactor, Constantin Şerban, who he supported in his unsuccessful attempts of regaining the throne. Perhaps she suffered a lot when, during the reign of Antonie vodă from Popeşti, her father was imprisoned after he had been marked on his nose, because he apparently represented the variant of the Băleanus party, the opponents of the Cantacuzinos, for the throne of Wallachia. Beside all of these things, another unlucky issue of her life was represented by the lack of descendants.
