Vlad Ţepeş şi Înalta Poartă

  • Subiect: Vlad The Impaler and The Ottoman Empire Continuing the anti-Ottoman policy of his father, Vlad the Impaler (1448, 1456- 1462, 1476) teamed up with the Hungarian king Matthias Corvinus (1460), and triggered a campaign in the south of the Danube to prevent the Ottoman offensive that threatened the Romanian Country. But, in the spring of 1462, the Sultan Mehmed II (1444-1446, 1451-1481), the conqueror of Constantinople, invaded the Romanian Country. Faced with this situation, lacking the military support of Hungary, the Wallachian prince applied the „scorched earth” tactics and during the night of 17-18 June, on the road between Nikopol and Târgovişte, he triggered the famous attack against the camp of Sultan Mehmed II, causing confusion and disarray in the Ottoman army.
