Ştefan Bellu, protagonist al vieţii politice şi economice din Ţara Românească în perioada ultimelor domnii fanariote

  • Subiect: Ştefan Bellu, A Protagonist Of The Political & Economical Life From Ţara Românească During The Last Two Phanariotes Rules. The ancestors of this historical character, who for six decades owned estates in our villages (Piscani, Negreni, Dârmăneşti, and Valea Nandrii) had the origins in the 18th century Macedonia. Dumitru Bellu (married to Despa) had, in its turn, a daughter & three sons; Gheorghe, Ştefan şi Costache. The first who officially arrived in Ţara Românească was Costache Bellu (1772-1838) who, being a banker, joined the ruler Ioan George Caragea when he traveled to Bucharest in the winter of 1812. Ştefan Bellu, the second son of Dumitru Bellu, was born in Pella (Macedonia) on 9 March 1767. he was brought to Ţara Românească about 1780, by his uncle Zicho (Zehno, Zihleanu) the former superior of Colţea Monastery. Unfortunately, the family name Bellu is no longer remembered in today Bucharest but in the cemetery today called by the inhabitants of Bucharest ”Bellu Cemetery”, built on the land offered by Barbu Bellu about the middle of the 19th century.
