At the beginning of July 1917, General Alexandru Averescu, the commander of the Second Romanian Army, ordered on the Mărăşeşti Front to carry out an offensive mission of 117,038 soldiers, out of which 3,364 officers and 113,674 troops. This military force was grouped into 2nd Army Corps (Infantry Divisions 6 and 8) and 4th Army Corps (Infantry Divisions 1 and 3). The Second Romanian Army occupied, at the beginning of the offensive in Mărăşti, a device disposed on three lines of defense, marked on the front line of: 580 (the Hill of Bâtca Carelor), where it joined the 9th Russian Army - north Hill 378 (Casin Valley) - Hill 480 (Plaiul Urşului) - west Hill 779 (La Paltin) - north Hill 772 (Poiana Coada Văii Babei) - eastern Hill 71 (Poiana La Încarcătoarea) - the crest of the Dragoteşti Hill - of the Buduiului Valley - the western slope of the village of Răcoasa, where it was connected with the 4th Russian Army.
