Imaginea voievodului Mircea cel Bătrân (1386-1418) redată pe o cahlă descoperită la Curtea Domnească de la Argeş (sec. XIV-XV)

  • Subiect: The Picture of Mircea The Elder (1386-1418) shown on a Plate Tile Discovered at The Royal Court of Argeş (XIV-XV) The present study presents a fragmentary unglazed stove tile (13,2×15×1,3-2 cm), discovered during the archaeological researches at the Royal Court of Argeş, in the years 1920-1922. On the ceramic plate, the silhouette of an equestrian character, reversed in front, and partly the neck of the horse, is preserved as an iconography. The character wears a crown, decorated with fleurons. He is wearing a tunic on the body, tight with a knight belt, to which the sword is attached. With his right hand he supports a lance, in a vertical position parallel to the body. The stylistic analysis of the composition, as well as the rudimentary technical means of making the ceramic plate, encompasses this tile during the end of the 14th century - the beginning of the 15th century. Suppose it is the image of voivode Mircea the Elder (1386-1418).
