Discurs iconografic inedit: o medalie emisă de Ferdinand al III-lea de Habsburg

  • Subiect: Based on a Ferdinand III medal preserved today in the collection of the National History Museum of Transylvania in Cluj-Napoca, this paper is aimed to signal the existence of some components of an artistic value in this medal which is relevant in order to rebuild the artistic universe of society from Austrian territories in the seventeenth century. The possibility that the ideas lying on the basis of imperial propaganda could be spread among the masses created real interest in Vienna and the medal art was indeed an efficient weapon in the propaganda of the House of Habsburg. Pursuing our analysis of the medal mainly focused on artistic aspects, the work underlines the stylistic arguments we found on the obverse and the reverse of this piece, arguments concerning the attempt to give a new kind of visual history.
