Relaţiile economice româno-germane şi mecanismele lor de articulare între anii 1866-1890

  • Subiect: When we look closer at the Romanian-German economic relationships between 1866 and 1890, we see that this time span is the basis of modern and lasting relations. Until the 1850's one can only speak about seldom and non-systematic economic contacts as the 18th century commercial exchanges were getting overrated; after 1850 one can notice their radical reorganization. We can enumerate as factors influencing these changes: the augmented German economic interest around the Lower Danube region, the inauguration by the young Romanian state of its own custom policy, the extension of the inner consumption market and, last but not least, the shaping of a clear option of economic, custom and external politics among our political class. Although the Romanian realities at the middle of the 19th century were less known in the German media, this state of affairs changes as more information emerge about the Romanian space. This information is due, at first, to foreign travellers, but it gets consistency as it turns into a real study dedicated to the economic potential of the Romanian region - information that will be taken into account by the affairs and decision groups in Germany. As we look at this time span from a quantity point of view, we can see mostly poor numbers of commercial exchanges between Romania and Germany as compared to other countries. By comparing the volume of these trade relations at beginning of the '60s and the beginning of the '90s, the increase is almost spectacular. The increase is explained by the permanent and special relations with the German world concerning the capital import, Reich's role as a creditor for Romania and finally by the specific evolution of the political relationships among the Central Powers up to World War I.
