Instalaţii hidraulice ţărăneşti (mori, pive, vîltori) în subzonele etnografice Rodna şi Năsăud

  • Subiect: In the first part of this work several explanations concerning the specific terminology are made, the term rural hydraulic equipment being used throughout the whole work. Then a classification was made according to the following principles: usage, system of collecting the water and the way in which the power of water is used by means of some gearings in order to process certain materials. The three types of equipment are studied separately insisting on the oldness of their attestation in that geographic area as well the terminology of the constituent parts. According to some documents a statistic evolution of this equipment is made concluding that the Someşul Mare river basin is situated on the third place in Transylvania, after those of Mureş and Arieş rivers. The great spread of rural hydraulic equipment was determined by a rich hydrographic system, many rain falls, the relative constant flow of the rivers, a specific chemical composition of the water, accessibility (most villages lie on valleys), cattle raising and agriculture etc. An interdependent working is noticed, as real complexes of rural technique, consisting of a mill, an eddy and a fulling mille, situated on the same river or under the same roof. In the last chapter of this work the substantial reduction of these types of equipment is mentioned. The decisive cause of their gradual and rapid disappearance is the changes of the villages. The tendency of urbanizing the villages leads to on even greater use of the industrial products and to a gradual renouncing of the traditional ones. At the date of our research only 77 rural hydraulic pieces of equipment have been recorded in the two ethnographical subzones. Out of them only 54 are in use (40 mills - 22 in use, 28 eddies - 24 in use and 9 fulling mills – 8 in use). The pieces of rural hydraulic equipment are documents of historical value. They reveal a certain closeness with as many archaeological, historical and ethnolinguistic facts (etymology, toponymy, history of language, anthroponomy). Their synthesis points out pertinent conclusions concerning the ethno cultural continuity of the Romanians in all the regions.
