Coin finds from Roman Napoca - the excavations on Deleu st.

  • Subiect: During the archaeological excavations that took place between 1991 and 2001 on the north territory of the former Roman town of Napoca amongst other artefacts 113 Roman coins have been found together with a hoard of 1268 silver coins. Beside the catalogue of coins this paper presents some preliminary comments on these finds. As can be seen in the catalogue of coins attached to this paper the coins were issued in large chronological interval from the republican time (54 BC) to the reign of Valerian I (AD 253-259). This situation is not a particular characteristic of this site but a general pattern of the entire province of Roman Dacia and not only. In fact we can talk about a representation at a smaller scale of the general situation of isolated coin finds from Dacia.
