Marele Război şi redimensionarea loialităţilor. Români ardeleni şi bănăţeni după despărţirea de „bunul împărat”

  • Subiect: At the end of World War I humanity witnessed fundamental changes: empires disappeared and new states were created, mentalities, attitudes and behaviours changed, loyalties and attachments were reconfigured and reshaped, humanity entered a new dynamic across all fields. A remarkable event takes place now, at the end of the war, in Central and South-Eastern Europe: the union of all Romanians in the borders of the same state and the creation of an exceptional political enterprise: Great Romania. It is interesting to reflect in this context on some several special situations: Romanians who have abandoned the Austrian-Hungarian military uniform and joined the “others”. Our article presents some significant case studies concerning Romanian officers, which during the Great War, deserted and crossed across the mountains in Romania (Octavian Codru Tăslăuanu, Casian Munteanu, Pavel Jumanca) or on the Italian side (Petre Ugliş from Pecica). These radical gestures are significant in the erosion – until total collapse – of loyalism among Romanians serving on the front alongside the Austrian-Hungarian troops, respectively their firm option for their own national identities.
