Observaţii asupra ceştii dacice din perioada romană şi post-romană

  • Subiect: This study deals with the evolution of an image considered to be proper for Dacian population. Romanian historiography stated that the "Dacian cup" and La Tene ceramics are the result of the living Dacians in the Roman province of Dacia. During second to fourth centuries A. D. the destination of the cups was the same as before Roman conquest objects for lighting. It is possible that rush lights should have been used by the poor or "traditionalist" people. This may be an explanation for the lack of the rush lights in towns. A ritual function of cups is not excluded. The ethnic significance of these cups is taken into consideration according to types. By its form, utility and spread the very Dacian cup is the one having one handle. Thus one could speak about living Dacians in Roman province wherever it is found. Two handled cups (found in three places) raised the problem of Dacian migration from Eastern Carpathians. Cups without handle, although belonged to Dacia (Second-Fourth Century A.D.) may be the result of Sarmatian influence because of the place they were found. Cups having sockets belonged also to Dacian people resembling to cups without handle. Having a variety of shape, CUP belonged-mainly-to Dacians. It offers possibilities of interpretations according to the people Dacians were connected with.
