1274-1277: Transilvania în sistemul politic al lui Matei Csak

  • Subiect: Under the circumstances of general crisis in Hungarian kingdom, rough enough at the death of Stephen V (1272), during 1274-1277 Transylvania was under the domination of Csak aristocratic family. Matei Csak, the leader, transformed this province into the centre of a greater political system, including Banatul Severinului district, trying to reconstitute the "dukedom" of Transylvania as it was during 1257-1270 under the leadership of the Royal Crown heir. The ruling of this vast domain offered the Csaks and its nobility the resources needed in order to obtain a dominant position in the Hungarian political stage, in the context of the internal conflict in the kingdom. In 1277 the pressures of Matei Csăk upon the German people from the South of Transylvania had as a consequence their revolt. This event led to the revolt of the nobility hostile to the Csaks and finally put an end to the domination of the Csaks on this territory.
