Apuleius şi complexul şchiopătatului mitic şi ritual. Studiu de psihologie istorică

  • Subiect: Starting by an apparently unknown excerpt from Apuleius-Metamorphoses (XI), we took into consideration the hackneyed motif, the common place in the specialized literature, according to which the ancient authors who treated subjects linked to religions of mysteries used a mysterious language, full of allusions. Beyond all of these the keys of the mysteries are to be founded by those initiated. It is possible that the unspeakable truths are transmitted in ambiguous ways or paradoxical formulas. It is important how much of these interpretations are given by the modern researchers and how much belongs to the author. Taking into consideration that Apuleius lived at the border of Greek and Roman worlds of Second and Third centuries, we consider that our study is dealing with a new field: historical psychology, as William L. Langer states. Our analysis reveals three levels: at the first one (narrative) the priest's hobble as a sign of recognition is no doubt a literary artifice. The second level reveals a sending to initiation and at the third level one can realize that Apuleius missed the deep signification, the purposefulness is no more discernible. The literary level (1) and mystical-philosophical one (2) are outrun by the level of unconsciousness (3): so, there is a structure of mythical thinking (archetype) but Apuleius did not know all the significations and consequences.
