Mărturii arheologice ale continuităţii daco-romane din judeţul Mureş

  • Subiect: The author presents in synthesis the archaeological discoveries attesting the Dacian-Roman continuity in the 1st-3rd centuries AD, on the territory of the Mureş district. Examining the discussed problem, the author shows that till the last five decades of our century, little archaeological evidence of the disputed Dacian-Roman continuity in the Mureş district were known. Except the Sighişoara - "Kulterberg" vestiges, dug in 1861 by K. Fabritius, the evidence of the Dacian-Roman continuity have been discovered, in fact, in the context of some soundings and diggings made in order to investigate some traces from other historical epochs (Band - "Cetatea surpăturii", Cristeşti - the rural Roman settlement, Lechinţa de Mureş - "Sălişte") and, in most of the cases, they were not considered at the moment documents of the continuity of the Romanian people (except, to a little extent, some vestiges from Cristeşti). But in the last decades the number of archaeological discoveries attesting the Dacian-Roman continuity in the Mureş district (in the Roman epoch, 106-271 a Chr.) has grown substantially. In order to render them evident, the archaeological research has contributed considerably, becoming at this stage, methodical and systematic. It has investigated with all the scientific strictness new points, has sounded or dug many settlements or necropolises, has reconsidered (or reevaluated) older discoveries (Band, Sântana de Mureş, Târgu Mureş). So, owing to the archaeological research, today we know in the space of the Mureş district 26 settlements with 34 topographical points from which archaeological evidences of the Dacian-Roman continuity are proceeding. These evidences carne from settlements (of surface houses or huts), necropolises or isolated tombs, from monetary treasures, tool storehouses etc. The whole variety of discoveries is analysed by the author who brings into light their probative documentary-historical value. The after Roman period even richer in such kind of evidence in the Mureş district area, will be presented by the author in another paper. The ancient vestiges of continuity, reconsidered, as those discovered in the last decades prove the continuity of the autochthonous Dacian-Roman population on the territory of the Mureş district, invalidating the fanciful theories of some foreign historians on the so-called discontinuity or extermination of the autochthonous population during the Roman epoch.
