Contribuţii la studiul faunei rezervaţiei naturale Lacul Traian (Cderna, jud. Tulcea)

  • Subiect: The resources of the Traian lake (former Cernaghiol) located in the Tulcea County offer excellent eating and breading conditions for many species of birds, some of them being rare species for the avifauna of Romania. These are also protected by the international conventions. The objectives of our study are to monitorize the avifauna of this lake (such data lack since 1967) and the human pressure that trends more and more to destroy this aquatic ecosystem. We identified 107 species of birds, 52 of them breading here. Seven breading species occur very rarely in Romania. The identified human factors are overfishing, poaching and the pollution with domestic trash stored close to the lake shores. Mammals are represented by quite a few species that do not account for large populations in the area: brown hare (Lepus europaeus), the European badger (Meles meles), wild boar (Sus scrofa), roe deer (Capreolus capreolus), insectivores such as the lesser white-toothed shrew (Crocidura suaveolens), southern white-breasted hedgehog (Erinaceus concolor) and horseshoe bats (Rhinolophus sp. and Myotis sp.). As it is a very rare species, threatened with extinction and declared as a protected species, it is very gladdening that the ruddy sheld duck (Tadorna ferruginea) also nestles on the lake Traian.
