România, Marea Britanie şi marile puteri la Congresului de la Berlin (1 iunie - 1 iulie 1878)

  • Subiect: After finding out the stipulations concerning Romania in the San Stefano Peace Treaty, the Romanian diplomacy, hoping for help from the Western Powers, would turn to Britain. In spite of all diplomatic offers, Britain maintained its reserve regarding Romania, an attitude due to the previous British-Russian agreements, among other things. Notwithstanding the improper context (for Romania) in which the proceeding of the Berlin Congress opened, and the offers of the Romanian diplomats will be targeted at solving the countries fundamental problems. After Romanian delegations forced retirement from the proceedings Romania's states would be discussed and rule over according to the interests of the Great Powers. Although Romania received conditional recognition of its independence, Great Britain is the main beneficiary of the works of the Berlin Congress.
