• Subiect: In the fund Alexandru Vaida Voevod from the District Direction of the National Archives Sibiu, one can find, among some other letters belonging to A.C. Popovici, a vast exposure of the ideas and points of view regarding the tone and content that the speeches of the Romanian Deputies in the Hungarian Parliament should have, after their unsuccessful negotiations with count Stefan Tisza, prime minister of the Hungarian Government. The text shows the author’s conceptions regarding the ways to be followed as for the Romanian - Hungarian relations. A.C. Popovici is a decided partisan of peace and understanding between the nationalities of the Austrian-Hungarian monarchy, based on the communion of interests. For such an objective to become true, the Hungarian leaders have to give up their traditional politics of oppression and denationalization-that cannot lead to the assimilation of the nationalities who reached the consciousness of their own identity. The document shows original aspects of the evolution of the author's political thinking. Thus, A.C. Popovici proposes a bipolar theoretical model to be the base of discussion for a possible reconciliation with the Hungarian Government and Nation. On the one hand, the acceptance of the concept of Hungarian political nation, so dear to the politicians of the dualistic Hungary, in the same time, the recognition of the necessity of creating a constitutional frame to ensure the free development of the un-Hungarian nationalities. The study is a comparative analysis of the notion of political nation at Jozsef Eotvos and A.C. Popovici. The author places A.C. Popovici national ideas as a bridge between the federal project from 1906 and the moment of its failure in the dusk years of the first world war.
