Rolul economic al aşezării romane Micia în cadrul provinciei Dacia

  • Subiect: The study highlights that Micia was an important economic centre as part of Dacia Province. This settlement benefited of good conditions for development because it was placed in an agricultural zone. At the same time it was an important centre for burnt earthen-pot production. The settlement participated in the commercial life of Trajan Dacia through the Mician harbour by the Mureş river. The Roman camp placed in this zone contributed to economic development of the Western side of Roman Dacia. The troops of the Roman camp supervised the peace in zone, essential factor for an increasing economic activity. Archaeological researches proved that the civil settlement had a great extension. The locality had streets longer than one kilometer, temples, public baths, administrative buildings, even an amphitheatre. At the same time there were discovered some installations for producing ceramic materials. These installations produced worship objects (Roman divinities statuettes), diverse domestic plates, bricks and tiles for the roofs of the houses. The big number of marble and usually stone architectural representations consisting of life-sized statues, funeral lions, medallions on which are sculptured the busts of the defuncts, the monuments of "stella" type proves the existence, at Micia, of one or more workshops for the artistic process of stone carving. Discovery on the bank of the Mureş river of a real harbor where there are big stores for goods certifies an intense commercial activity which exceeded the commercial changes for local necessities. A treasure of almost 3000 pieces of imperial money suggests the possibilities for some of Micia's inhabitants to accumulate capital from their activities.
