Subiect: The subject of the study is the typology of the medieval fortifications in the southeast of Hungarian Kingdom started from 1. the methods and criterions of dividing this class of objects; 2. the literature of this problem in Romania and outside; 3. the level of the research in the Romanian history. The author analyzed a group of 38 fortifications from a strategic region, at the border of the kingdom. The criteria of classifying medieval fortifications are, generally, known: shape (regular, irregular), raw-material (earth-timber and stone-brick), geographic position (on the top of the hills, on the plains, near the rivers), functions (political, economical, strategic), architectural styles (Romanic, Gothic), the connections between the elements of defense (for example, between the precinct and the towers). Taking in consideration the plan in the south-east of Hungarian Kingdom there were two categories of fortifications: with irregular plan, built from stone, on the top of the hills and, secondary, with regular plan, build on the plain, first of all from earth and after that from stone.
