Gestică simbolică în ritualul investiturii unui cavaler

  • Subiect: The author deals with one of the most interesting topics, that of dubbing a knight in Medieval Europe. This is a ritual and not a ceremony, because a ritual usually transformed, effected a change, and so contained an element of magic, while a ceremony reflected and displayed a given state of affairs, social situation or ideas. The person who is waiting to become a knight has been involved - during the ritual of dubbing - in different events, some of them with religious, and others with secular connotations. The first step is having a bath, episode that is regarded as a baptismal rite. Later, the candidate receives a sword, usually from a bishop, and this is also regarded as a religious aspect of the ritual. Only the final stage of the festivity, when the new knight receives his spurs, has secular connotations.
