Consideraţii asupra ansamblului de pictură murală aparţinînd bisericii monument istoric "Sfîntul Nicolae" din Leşnic

  • Subiect: Set on the Mureş Valley, in the Leşnic village, the historical monument church with patron saint St. Nicolas old prince foundation was raised at the end of the 14th century. Throughout ages, the monument suffered some modifications: instead of the original tower it was added a pronaos with a hanging roof with steeple and wooden belfry. In 1681 in the nave it was built a wooden squaring hanging roof decorate with vegetal and flower motifs. The church kept inside a beautiful ensemble of mural painting divided in sanctuary iconostasis and nave. The painting on the altar and iconostasis was covered with new painting in the 18-th century. The original coat of paint from the nave dated in the middle of 15-th century. During the centuries the coat of fresco was covered by a stratum of dirt and smoke, because of temperature and humidity variations and also because of the heating system and inadequate lighting. For these reasons the painting lost there its brightness, but not its artistic qualities.
