Disputa pentru coroana Ungariei dintre Ferdinand şi Zapolya (1526-1540)

  • Subiect: After the battle of Mohacs (August 1526), where the king Ludovic II was killed, in Hungary started a powerful confrontation for the crown between the most important pretenders: Ferdinand of Austria and Ioan Zapolya, one of the richest Hungarian nobles. The conflict lasted until Zapolya's death in July 1540, as a strong dispute both diplomatic and military. The study, based on a comprehensive bibliography emphasizes in its first part three important aspects for the understanding of the confrontation between the two rivals: the situation in Europe of that time (the beginning of 16th century), the situation in Hungary and older aspects of the dispute for the crown of Hungary that Habsburg's was involved. In its second part the study analyze the events from 1526-1527 when, as a matter of fact, Hungary had two kings, Ferdinand and Zapolya. After this, the study analyzes the political and the military disputes between these two rivals. Also, are presented the position of the European states involved in this dispute, especially the opinion of Poland, Moldova, the Ottoman Empire, France and the German Empire.
