  • Subiect: The Vicarage of Sylvania Between 1848-1850 The 1848 revolution was a very important moment for the people from Sălaj as well as for their brothers from all over Transylvania which had several important consequences in both political and confessional field. Alexandru Şterca Şuluţiu remains the most important personality of the national movement from Tara Silvaniei. As a vicar he would try to introduce the Romanian language in administration and to revive the confessional teaching in the Vicarage he was ruling. His collaboration with Hungarian and Austrian authorities was motivated by defending the interests of the Romanians who claimed their rights beginning with the new introduced law of the Habsburgic Monarchy. Under the rule of the Vicarage from Şimleu Silvaniei, the Greek-Catholic clergy from Sălaj district was a social category that took part in the events; from 1848-1849, as well as in defending the rights gained in the revolution. The years 1848-1850 brought important realizations for Vicar Alexandru Slerca Suluţiu who would be appointed Bishop of Greek-Catholic Archparish from Blaj.
