Valori şi semnificaţii ale creaţiei peisagistice a lui Fritz Schillerus

  • Subiect: Landscape, as a genre, developed relatively late in Transylvania. The differences between the evolution of arts in Transylvania and in Central Europe determined a late reception of this genre. The first who painted landscape was Franz Neuhauser (1763-1836), an artist from Vienna, who established himself in Sibiu. He is considered the initiator of modern landscape in this area. At the middle of the 19th century the taste for intimate, sweet and gentle landscape, usually also containing Romantic elements, known under the name Biedermeier, was brought in Transylvania from Vienna. With a warm and quick reception from the public. it spread rapidly and remained the dominant style till the end of the 19th cenlury. Fritz Schullerus's lyric landscapes represented a new important stage in the evolution of landscape in this region, accrediting the mood- landscape. Born in 1866 in Făgăraş, Schullerus studied painting in Sibiu, with the painter and college teacher Carl Dörschlag, in Budapest and at the Arts Academy in München. In the Bavarian capital he came in touch with the diverse ways of expression that spread at the end of the 19th century. Coming back in Transylvania, Schullerus usually painted traditionally from the point of view of style and subject. Under the pressure of life hard experiences he came to an identification between his feelings and the piece of nature he chose to render. At that moment his landscape gained a spiritual value, becoming one with the artist's sensitivity and emotion.
