Marea unire reflectată în presa maghiară hunedoreană

  • Subiect: In the generalized conflict during the First World War, the first great event that shook the world was the collapse of the Russian Empire. The event had echoes even in the "Hunyadvarmegye" newspaper who mentioned that Russia was a giant that before long would succumb. In the same place Kerenski is considered a fanatic of the war and the initiatives of Lenin are gladden of appreciation. In the same newspaper, the publisher forecast a change of the world system, a democratization of relationship among states, generally, of human society. The national matter was, in that context, the touchstone of Budapest. In an authorless leading article, they specified that was necessary an affirmation also in that case of democratic principles. But when Bessarabia joined Romania, the activity of over one thousand Transylvanian people, amongst whom dr. Sebastian Bomemisa and Vasile Osvadă gave rise to a callous rejoinder in the Magyar press. Dr. Tibolt Schmidt did himself an accusing historic presentation. The autumn of 1918 fetched new changes in European plan through forming of the new states: Czecho-Slovak, Yugoslav and Polish. It was more and more obvious that Transylvania would join Romania. There have been in sight national councils and national guards, Romanian and Magyar, and in the "Hunyadvarmegye" newspaper they couched hope that they would co-operate. Later, in the newspaper they asserted the inopportuneness to the union of Transylvania with Romania. The course of events denied those assertions. After the Great Union the newspaper mentions showed that dr. Petru Groza convened the Magyar people to collaboration and ensured that there didn't take place undesirable incidents. They published the translation of the Proclamation of the new military commander of Deva into Magyar language. If we accept that, generally, the press is the echo of public opinion, than we can ascertain the Magyar people from Transylvania were opposed in connection with the Union with Romania.
