Dipozitivul defensiv dacic de la Ponoriciu (jud. Hunedoara)

  • Subiect: The article refers to the discovery, in the Ponoriciu-Cioclovina caves area, of an important ensamble of fortifications from the Dacian-Roman wars of 101-102, 105-106 AD. As we see in the enclosed map, the disposition consist of three succesive positions suitable on the summits of the hills (10 km2 aria) : the succesive walls built from stone (limestone). and earth, through calcination tehnic, a monolit bloc, 2,5 m thickners, 10 620 m long. The ingenions defensive sistem has been divided into three sections in order to break the enemy army, especially the third position like a casemate where Decebal's army had been only one alternative: to destroy „in testudo" the Romans, or to die in harness. The decisive place of the struggle was, perhapce, here, in this part of the system. The Romans became the masters of Dacia, but the Dacian defensive walls show us the high level of Dacian military knowledge. The Ponoriciu Dacian defensive system was part of the defensive Complex of Sebeş Mountains fortress.
